YWCA Columbus Statement on the 2024 Election

As results from the 2024 General Election are verified by election officials, YWCA Columbus harkens back to our vision for an inclusive, multiracial democracy in which every voice is heard and valued.

In this country, people have marched, fought and died for the right to vote, which remains a powerful way to change systems of inequity. We are grateful to everyone who cast a ballot, provided community education, and who advocated for positive social change in other ways this election season.

We acknowledge and affirm those with heightened anxieties about the future. We hold space for the mental, physical and emotional safety of our neighbors, particularly people of color and other marginalized communities, and we encourage you to lean into community in ways that feel safe and nourishing.

YWCA Columbus remains firm in our commitment to all those we serve – even as we head toward an uncertain future together.

We invite everyone to come together now with hope, resolve, and collective action. Today may be the end of the election but is just the beginning of holding elected officials accountable for a just future.

Our mission calls for a community in which all people can live in peace, justice, freedom, and dignity. Through our steadfast commitment to this pursuit, we invite you to join our movement of building a racially equitable nation in which women and girls can thrive.
