Our Stories, Your Impact

I’m most looking forward to having this baby

– and just being on this new journey.

We struggle and we’re going to go through some things, but I’m very passionate about being a mother. I’m very outgoing and loving and very open and caring. My children motivate me. There were times I – I didn’t want to go to the shelter, I didn’t even want to be on this earth, but my children kept me going. I have three boys and three girls. I think this one is a boy, but I want it to be a girl. Either way, they’re gonna be the tie-breaker. I’m due on Oct. 28, and if it’s a girl I’m gonna name her Autumn. I feel like that fits a fall baby. Right now, I’m most looking forward to having this baby – and just being on this new journey. I was born in Columbus, but I’m from Los Angeles. I lived on the Northside before, so I’m still getting used to getting around on this side of town. I got to the Family Center on March 20 and then I got the keys on July 1, but I haven’t actually slept here, yet. My mom is helping me get set up. She’s my support system, and she would’ve taken me in, but I just – I had to do this on my own. I had to do it the right way. And, Elonda at the Family Center was great. She gave me a lot of resources and really advocated for me. She told me what to look for and helped me get what I needed to find this place. My favorite place here is probably the yard. I have to get some stuff out there for the kids, I want a trampoline. I am a home health nurse, but I’m down to one client right now until my baby comes. I’m very family-oriented, so having this stability right now is exactly what I was hoping for.

Davonna and her family recently moved out of the YWCA Family Center – just in time for her seventh baby to arrive!

Your donation today directly supports families like Davonna’s who require emergency shelter and services for families without homes. Please give now, because every story deserves to be heard, and the next chapter of someone’s life may begin with your generosity.
