YWCA Columbus Statement on Ohio’s HB 68 Ruling
Yesterday, an Ohio Judge rejected ACLU Ohio's challenge to House Bill 68, allowing Ohio's law banning gender-affirming care for trans youth to take immediate effect.
We firmly disavow this harmful legislation, which blatantly puts the futures of Ohio's youth at risk, and positions Ohio to be among the most restrictive states in the country for LGBTQ+ people. This legislation is a gross misuse of power to restrict bodily autonomy and control the lives and freedoms of trans and gender-expansive people. All trans youth deserve to feel a sense of safety, belonging, and to live a life without such deliberate state-sanctioned discrimination.
YWCA Columbus is committed to inclusive, affirming policies that promote justice and dignity – and will continue to fight to end gender-based oppression across our community. Discrimination has no home in Ohio.
